Were you bad at Fantasy Football in 2023?

QB Injuries, an Announcement and an Offer

Hey there!

Long time no talk, I know. Most of the efforts this season were focused on

1. The podcast 2. The Patreon and 3. fantasypoints.com.

And, uh, oh yeah. Starting a business.

An Announcement and Offer

So, to avoid further burying the lede, I’m extremely excited to announce that I decided to leave the Twins organization and open a private practice in Denver. Hooray! Now, contrary to popular belief, I am seeing athletes of all kinds. Not just the pros!

So if you’re an athlete of any kind in the Denver area (especially a baseball player) dealing with pain or discomfort, cash in this offer exclusively for my fantasy football degens: a totally free phone consultation. If we’re a match, you’ll also get more than a 50% discount on an initial evaluation where we work one on one in person.

If this is something you’re interested in, call (720) 248-7515 for a free 15 min consult and/or email [email protected] to get started today. If this isn’t you but you are interested in more rehab and performance based content, follow my IG page (@proathletept) and DM me the word “newsletter” to get signed up.

Were you Extra Bad at Fantasy This Season?

Okay. Now here’s what most of you are here for.

I’m back to give you periodic off-season updates. So, the one big thing you’ve been wondering. Were QBs really more injured than usual this year?

The answer is yes and no. Even though the number of 2023 starting quarterbacks who missed time due to injury was nearly identical to 2022 (20 vs. 19 respectively) QBs this season missed a whopping 102 total games. That number was just 88 games in 2022.

Joe Burrow, Kirk Cousins, Daniel Jones, Anthony Richardson, Deshaun Watson and Aaron Rodgers just on their own combined to miss a total of 67 games. Whoof.

The downstream effects are just as jarring. It seems obvious but bears repeating that highly drafted skill players were also impacted. Naming only the teammates of QBs who missed at least 7 games, these skill players were drafted in the top 6 rounds per August Underdog ADP:

  • Ja’Marr Chase

  • Tee Higgins

  • Joe Mixon

  • T.J. Hockenson

  • Alexander Mattison

  • Saquon Barkley

  • Darren Waller

  • Michael Pittman

  • Jonathan Taylor

  • Nick Chubb

  • Amari Cooper

  • Breece Hall

  • Garrett Wilson

There are plenty of knits to be picked with some of these players. And some of them had injuries of their own. But the point is that several offenses had to endure tectonic shifts in game planning and overall infrastructure.

Here are the skill player teammates of QBs who missed 3-6 games due to injury:

  • Garrett Wilson (again after Zach Wilson took over)

  • Breece Hall (again after Zach Wilson took over)

  • Amari Cooper (again after Cleveland discovered DTR wasn’t that guy)

  • DJ Moore

  • Keenan Allen

  • Austin Ekeler

  • Mike Williams

  • Najee Harris

  • Diontae Johnson

  • George Pickens

  • Saquon Barkley (again when Tyrod Taylor took over)

  • Darren Waller  (again when Tyrod Taylor took over)

So were you extra bad at fantasy football this year? It may not be your fault! But to help answer this question, we need to know how skill players themselves fared from an injury perspective. We’ll get into that in the next newsletter.

Remember, if you need some rehab in the Denver area call (720) 248-7515 or email [email protected] to get started today.
